Today as I was taking a break, gazing aimlessly out the window I was startled …..
by what I saw next. The huge crow that had landed at the bird bath in the back yard had one of Snoopes discarded sugar cookies in his beak. That in of itself isn’t unusual as I feed them all the time. But what was outright outstanding was this one actually does the “dunkin donuts” thing!
First, he put the large cookie in the water of the bird bath. But it was too large for the whole thing to be submerged. Undaunted, and balancing on one leg he took his free claw and together with his beak held the whole cookie underwater. After a moment he took it back up. Tested it – obviously still too hard – he dunked it again for a few moments. Tested it again. This time obviously a success as the whole softened cookie disappeared down the hatch!
Who says animals can’t figure things out? They’re much smarter than you think, and unlike a lot of humans, they don’t give up. They persist until they get the results they want. Definitely results oriented!
Another lesson reinforced.
