Traffic is growing … I can’t believe it!

Just had a chance to look at my stats today, and after 3 weeks with an abysmal record, traffic is beginning to come around in the last 4 days especially.  Up to 164 visits from 68.  I apologize for my tardiness with my blog this last week.  I had a beautiful day of sunshine and took off on a road trip.

The very next day it began to snow again in ernest. Over 1 foot overnight.  The next day over 8 inches over night, and every day the same story.

Yesterday was different, but by the amount of snow on the roof, I figured after shoveling out the drive, that it might be a prudent thing to shovel the roof off for the second time .  Good thing too – a neighbor’s machine shop (with all his ATV’s, backhoe, tractors and the like inside) just collapsed.  They were looking for neighbors to come help shovel him out I was still working on mine, but a few fellows down the street went over to help.

One whole day of shoveling (over 5 hours straight).  Yikes – and then the neighbors asked me to come out to the new exercise club (did I look like I needed it ?- but I went anyway)

This morning I didn’t think I’d be able to crawl out of bed let alone take a go at removing the mountains that had appeared all around the house from the roof top.  I went at it today again, and dad with his little snow blower.  Another 4 hours and it’s only 1/2 done.  At least it wasn’t snowing.

No one here has ever seen snow like this before.

Even my fingers ache, but that went away once I took a look at my stats.  Patience …. and persistence ….

All the best, and here’s to someplace with NO SNOW!

Dreaming of palm trees and sandy beaches…

PS – guess I spoke to soon about the snow slowing or stopping when I started this post… got another 1.5 feet last night, now it’s raining … and I see the nice snowplow driver did remove part of that 4.5 foot snow bank he plowed me in with (did my standing in the street sreaming have anything to do with it?)  :)

    Hi Angela,

Just making my rounds and spying on what other students are up to on their blogs :)

Very nice layout here. I really like it.

I do have one comment which is somewhat unrelated to your post here, but is when concerning with organic traffic from search engines.

Your blog permalinks are not set up properly.

    For example:

Your urls are reading like this right now

    blog.com/?p=123

When ideally it should read like so:

    blog.com/hello-world/

    Why concern yourself with this?

Well, when someone finds your post or site within the search engines and they see the url of your post – it looks iffy. I cannot tell what the post is about based on the structure and also search engines would be more apt to index your page or site if the structure is better.

Also, in addition to that is the most important factor with a nice structure which is ranking ability. By inserting keywords into your post, the search engines can use that to help your post rank better – which in turn translated into more traffic in the end.

I would highly recommend changing this asap.

But since you have quite a few posts made here on your blog already, maybe some of these are indexed in engines. If so, then you’ll need to be a little careful.

I have created an ebook titled BlogFU which can be downloaded on my blog which lays out how to setup permalinks ( as well as many other things ) and also what to do in your situation if posts are already indexed prior to your permalink configuration.

    Cheers,
    Colin
