While all of us are so eager to earn a dollar these days, please don’t lose sight of the real person who is before you … your customer. On the net it’s so easy to forget this vital and core part of your business.
For example. Who really are you working with? Do they have a special need that you are missing? Maybe the topic is kind of sensitive, maybe they’re just not willing to come forward with their needs. What ever your business niche you need to put yourself in your customers shoes and find those products or solutions that are a perfect fit for them.
Sometimes it takes a shot gun approach before you get the hang of it or get to know what your customer really wants. Perhaps its something new and innovative? Perhaps by becoming your own customer you can see exactly what it is that you’re missing the boat on and where you’re doing the right thing.
This is a no-man’s land … online no one will tell you … they leave you to try and sort it out yourself. Can’t fix it if you don’t know what’s broke!
OK, enough of the ranting (for now), but have you got something tangible that your customers can get their hot little hands on and be totally thrilled not just with the purchase, but the buying experience or did you help them with a particular problem that has just been a sore spot that your solution brings rave reviews?
In my traditional field, customer service is everything. Online, this customer isn’t as easy to define as someone who is standing right in front of your or is on the phone. Try to envision your “ideal” customer as being right there in your face as you plan your business, your online service or store, or your brand new product. Chances are … you’ll get a better feel for who you are working with and you’ll create a much better service and online experience.
Google has been accused of many things … and the recent media expose or two that I’ve seen about them on television always seem to hype it up. But I gotta admit … I try my best to play by the rules and those rules don’t seem exhorbitantly unreasonable. They are (like you and I … I hope) trying to create a better user experience. And if the experience you’re giving your customers isn’t as up to par as they’d like … I guarantee they’ll penalize us … with higher fees or lower rankings.
I’m learning as I go … just like 99% of us out there. If there is something you’d like me to post about that I’m missing or outright wrong on … post me back (good, bad or ugly!).
Cheers,
Ange
