RSR Rights, public domain books and digital e-books. What’s hot and what’s not.
Let’s start with what’s not hot. Buying a bundle of RSR e-books, or given a text file that supposedly you can remaster into your own ebook. OK, the ideal is cool. What’s not cool, is maybe there is a copyright infringement even if the book is in the public domain and what you thought you bought isn’t entirely correct, although maybe technically it might be. How do you know?
You may have done your research, like some even hired legal counsel who asserts the work is in the public domain, but what I discovered today indicates that one lawyer’s opinion doesn’t necessarily make it so. Just google Think & Grow Rich – you might have to dig down more than one or two pages. I’m sure the Respondent was firmly in the belief that he was in the right, that the original 1937 work was in the public domain, which it was and is. Problem is the Complaintant has the copy right to the name (being the title of the book).
For this reason, regardless that this book and the one we offered we offered as a gift to our readers was/is in the public domain, we have discontinued offering it. I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.
Herein lies a conundrum. Public – or not? Best bet – get your copy of Napoleon Hill’s classic from Chapters, Amazon, or better yet – from the Napoleon Hill Foundation or from Melvin Powers, publishers of the paper back book by the same name.
If you would like to order your own copy, as published by Melvin Powers, fill in your details to the right and we’ll be happy to fulfill your order and will include a free “6 Steps to Wealth” pdf and a free pdf on the power of goals.
All the best,
Ange
